COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team could not overcome a second half goal from Air Force and dropped a Western Athletic Conference game 1-0 on Sunday at Cadet Soccer Stadium.
The Falcons' Tucker Bone scored his second goal of the season in the 57
th minute that would prove to be enough to be the game-winner. The goal came after a quick restart on a foul occurring just outside of the box.
The Cardinals (5-5, 1-3) started the game a bit slow offensively, only attempting three shots all half. The Falcons (4-6, 1-2) were not much better as they only took five shots.
The second half was a different story as both teams combined for 20 shots. UIW goalkeeper
Chase Therrien (Trophy Club/Byron Nelson HS) had eight saves, but could not do anything about Bone's heel tap to find the back of the net. Air Force's goalkeeper, Rob Blair, backed a terrific game by the Falcons' defense with six saves on the afternoon.
Ben Conway (Wigan, Eng./Hawkley Hall) and
O'Neal Moore (Houston/Alief Taylor HS) led the Cardinals with four shots each, but with no goals scored, this was the second straight game UIW has been shutout, 1-0.
The Cardinals have lost three straight games in conference and now face a tough road ahead in the WAC. They are home to host Grand Canyon on Thursday at 7 p.m., but then go on the road to face UNLV next Sunday.
