Cardinals Host New Orleans

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team is looking to snap a four-game losing streak on Thursday at 6 p.m. when they take on Southland Conference rival New Orleans at the McDermott Center.

The Cardinals (3-9, 0-1) have lost their last three games by a combined total of 13 points.  The latest loss was at Sam Houston State, 59-55 in the Southland Conference opener.  UIW is allowing 66.3 points per game, but are only scoring 57.1 points per game.

UIW has used nine different starting lineups this season and everyone on the active roster has started at least one game and nine players have made at least three starts.  Aricka Adams (Round Rock/Round Rock HS) is the team's leading scorer at 13.3 points per game on 41.3 percent shooting from the field.  She is also second on the team with 30 assists.  Shanise Brooks (Topeka, KS/Highland Park HS) averaged 15.0 points and 13.0 rebounds per game last week and will be a big key to Thursday's matchup.

The Privateers (2-8, 0-1) are coming off a season in which they did not win a game, but they are much improved in 2014-15.  They picked up a nice win over Kent State last week and had a 10-point loss against Lamar to open their SLC schedule.  They do not have anyone scoring in double figures, but Randi Brown leads the team with 8.8 points per game off the bench.  They have 11 players who are playing at least 9.0 minutes per game.

Last year, the Cardinals defeated the Privateers, 67-36 in New Orleans.  UIW shot 48.1 percent from the field in the game and held UNO to 19.3 percent shooting from the field.

UIW fans will have two broadcast options for the game.  Student radio station KUIW will be broadcasting the game with Chris Reyes on the call and fans can also listen online at cardinals.ezstream.com with Greg Sherman on the call.
