Miners Trap Cardinals, 4-0

EL PASO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team ran into their toughest opponent of the season on Friday night and lost 4-0 at UTEP.

The Miners (3-0-1) only needed a total of 10 shots to score all of their goals.  They took the lead just before 20 minutes were up.  Hannah Nicholson served a ball into the middle of the box and Bri Thomas was able to redirect it into the back of the net at 19:59.  The Miners only managed one more shot the rest of the half, but they limited the Cardinals (0-3) to a total of six shots in the game.

In the second half, the Miners quickly put the game away.  Nicole Lindsay sent a cross to the far post that Angela Cutaia sent past the goalkeeper with a nice header at 49:22.  It was the first overall shot of the half.  UTEP's second shot of the half also went into the net.  This time it was Cutaia and Lindsay reversed roles with Cutaia threading a perfect thru ball into space that Lindsay controlled and then hammered for a goal at 63:22.

The final goal of the game came late when Amanda Pak crossed the ball to the far side and it was tapped by Bri Williamson to Alexis Roberts for the easy goal at 84:52.
Each team recorded two saves, but the Miners were able to put six shots on goal while the Cardinals could only put the two.  Karly Brightwell (Houston/) was tagged with the loss after playing all 90 minutes in goal for the Cardinals.  Sarah Dilling maintained her 0.00 goals against average for UTEP, but was relieved over the final 19:23 by Keighton Allen.

The Cardinals travel to New Mexico State on Sunday at 2 p.m. in hopes of securing their first win of the season.
