SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team will be honoring six seniors on Saturday prior to their 2 p.m. game against visiting New Jersey Institute of Technology at the McDermott Center.
The Cardinals (8-15) are playing their final home game of the year against non-conference foe NJIT (6-20). UIW is currently embroiled in a seven game losing streak that includes five losses by seven points or less. The team has been a bit unlucky lately losing each of their last three games despite leading at halftime.
The Cardinals top four scorers are all seniors.
Rose Whitehead (Grapevine/Grapevine HS) leads the group with 13.3 points per game while twin sisters Ifunanya and
Kosisio Mora (Grand Prairie/Arlington Bowie HS) have been filling up the stat sheet. Ify averages 10.9 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game while Kosy contributes 9.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game and is coming off a pair of double-doubles. Overall the team is averaging 61.9 points per game and allowing 66.5 points per game.
The Highlanders are coming off their largest margin of victory this season with a 71-42 win over Rutgers-Newark on Monday. Shakia Robinson leads the team with 11.5 points per game and is shooting 59 percent from the field. She needs just 22 points to reach 1,000 in her career. Uju Nwankwo chips in with 9.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game.
