CONWAY, ARKANSAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team will be hitting the road for a single match this week against the University of Central Arkansas on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Cardinals (0-3 SLC, 0-10 overall) have been struggling to grasp their first victory of the season. As the season has progressed, UIW has shown great persistence and development. Under the new leadership of head coach
Anne Felts and assistant coaches
Jenni Branam and
Kerwin Johnson, the Cardinals are looking for a Southland Conference win against the Bears.
Sarah Johnson (Austin/Home School) leads the team with three goals and an assist.
Last year, the Cardinals lost a heartbreaker against the Bears. Even though the Cardinals dominated with 15 more shots than UCA, the game went to overtime tied 2-2. In the second extra period, UCA's Adriana Lucar took a free kick outside the 18-yard box that was finished by Lauren Trueheart for a 3-2 victory.
Central Arkansas (1-1-1 SLC, 5-4-2 overall) is coming off a pair of solid performances with a win over Northwestern State and a tie against Abilene Christian. Shelby Wilson and Allie Coleman lead their attack with four goals and two assists apiece.
