SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word football team will host Texas College on Saturday night at 6 p.m. in the 2013 home opener at Benson Stadium. This is the second straight year the Cardinals have played the Steers in their home opener.
The Cardinals (0-1) are coming off a 58-7 loss at #6 Central Arkansas to open the season last week and will looking to even their record this week. This is the first football game played at Benson Stadium since joining NCAA Division I. Last year, the Cardinals defeated the Steers (0-1), 19-12.
The UIW offense is led by red-shirt freshman quarterback
Trent Brittain (Eastland/Eastland HS). He went 21-of-38 for 144 yards and no interceptions while rushing for 70 yards and a touchdown on nine carries in Week 1. His favorite target was sophomore
Clint Killough (San Antonio/MacArthur HS) who had five grabs for 37 yards. The ground game features a cadre of freshmen who are still trying to assert themselves. Johnny Sessions (Mesquite/Mesquite HS) led the group last week with 13 yards on six carries.
The Cardinals defense hopes to show great improvement over last week when they allowed scores on the first five drives of the game. Defensive back
Kobie Douglas (Plano/Plano HS) led the team with eight tackles and a pass breakup last week. Freshman linebacker
Greg Lemon (Austin/Sweeny HS) had the team's only sack, forced a fumble and recovered another one that he returned 28 yards.

loss at Belhaven last week. He also led the team with 133 yards and two touchdowns rushing on 21 carries.
