Box Score SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team lost in three sets to visiting Southland Conference rival McNeese State on Saturday 25-14, 25-23, 25-17 at the McDermott Center.
The Cardinals (5-6, 1-3) fought hard against the Cowgirls (10-8, 3-2), but were never able to build up a lead in any of the sets. McNeese State used a strong attack and solid defense to hold back the Cardinals.
UIW posted a .149 attack and only had a sideout percentage of 49 percent. The team had 35 kills, 25 digs and 5.0 blocks in the match while committing eight service errors. Freshman
Brittani Dear (La Vernia/La Vernia HS) led the team with nine kills and a .273 attack percentage.
Danielle Suarez (San Antonio/Antonian HS) dished out 20 assists while
Sarah Cardenas (San Antonio/O'Connor HS) led the team with seven digs.
The Cowgirls posted a .333 attack with 39 kills, 34 digs and 6.0 blocks. Sophie Tenbusch was the only player in the match with double figure kills finishing with 11 and a .421 attack. Vanessa Bentley handed out 32 assists and Kara Rockey added 10 digs. Tenbusch also led all players with four blocks on the afternoon.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at home against Texas A&M-Kingsville. It will be Rally Red Night at the McDermott Center.
