STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS - The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team split a double header with Tarleton State on Saturday afternoon at the Cecil Barlow Baseball Complex.  The Cardinals won the first game 15-3 before dropping the second game 7-1 in a Lone Star Conference doubleheader. The Cardinals (21-13) bats were on fire in game one when they took an easy 15-3 victory.  UIW got things started in the first inning when Thomas Rinn (Cameron/Yoe HS) scored on a passed ball.  In the third inning Rinn had a sacrifice fly to center field extending the lead to 2-0. 

Incarnate Word got going in the sixth and seventh innings putting up a combined 11 runs in the two innings.  The Cardinals picked up six runs in the sixth inning.  John Zule (San Antonio/Stevens HS) had a RBI double in the sixth and picked up his third RBI in the seventh inning with an infield single. 

Zac Russell (San Antonio/Cisco JC) and Derrick Walls (San Antonio/Reagan HS) also had multiple RBI's in the game with two each.  As a team UIW had 16 hits from nine different players.

Alexis Garza (McCallen, TX/McAllen HS) once again shined on the mound pitching 6.1 innings while giving up three runs to move to 4-0 on the season.  Pete Perez lost his first of the season on the mound for the Texans. 

Tarleton State (22-11-1) took control of the series by wining game three, 7-1.  The Cardinals got on the board first in the first inning when Walls scored on a passed ball.  It was all Tarleton from that point on.  Colten Boothe homered in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1.  In the third inning Boothe singled to left field driving home the eventual winning run. 

Jesus Berduzco (Sacramento, CA/Sacramento City CC) picked up the loss for the Cardinals going 3.1 innings giving up four hits, four runs and striking out four in the process.  Miguel Ramirez got the victory pitching a complete game giving up only one run and striking out five. 

The Cardinals and Texans will finish up the series tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at the Cecil Barlow Baseball Complex.
