Baseball Drops Road Game

AUSTIN, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word dropped a road game on Tuesday afternoon at St. Edward's University, 12-2 at Lucian-Hamilton Field. (Box Score)

The Cardinals (26-20) continued their struggles on the road this year as they dropped to 4-15 in away games while maintaining a sparkling 20-4 record at Sullivan Field.  The game was 0-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning when the Hilltoppers (30-14) broke through for two runs.  They would put the game away with four runs in the fifth and six runs in the sixth inning.

The Cardinals managed two runs in the top of the sixth inning to pull to within 6-2, but the big inning for the Hilltoppers put thoughts of a comeback out of reach.

UIW managed only three hits off Kyle Seithel who picked up a complete game victory for St. Edward's.  He allowed three hits, two runs and one walk while striking out five.  Geno Encina (San Antonio/Brandeis HS) took the loss for the Cardinals.  He allowed five hits, two runs and a walk in 4.0 innings.  He picked up two strike outs.

Derrick Walls (San Antonio/Reagan HS) had a double and scored a run while Aaron Warren (San Antonio/Texas Southern) had an RBI single, stole a base and scored a run.

The Hilltoppers had eight hits and five walks and took complete advantage of every one of them.  They only left a total of two men on base in the entire game.  Ransom LaLonde went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and five RBI's to lead the team.  No one else had more than one hit in the game.

The Cardinals close out the regular season this weekend at home against Lone Star Conference rival Texas A&M-Kingsville.  The teams will play a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.  Both teams have already clinched berths in the upcoming LSC Tournament to be played in Canyon, TX.
