Baseball Hosts Cameron

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team opens up a four game series against Lone Star Conference rival Cameron University on Friday at 3 p.m. at Sullivan Field.

The Cardinals (16-11, 2-6) will attempt to get back on the right track after a tough few weeks.  They will play a doubleheader against the Aggies (8-16, 2-6) on Friday and another doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m.

UIW is hitting .311 as a team and have outscored their opponents 198-124 on the season.  John Zule (San Antonio/Stevens HS) leads the team with a .398 batting average and has driven in 22 runs.  Derrick Walls (San Antonio/Reagan HS) is hitting .376 and is among the national leaders in runs scored, walks and stolen bases.

The UIW pitching staff is holding opponents to a .247 batting average and boast a 4.14 ERA.  Alexis Garza (McAllen/McAllen HS) is 3-0 with a 0.74 ERA and has struck out 31 in 24.1 innings.

The Aggies are hitting .269 as a team and have been outscored 165-111.  Nick Smith leads the team with a .363 batting average and seven doubles.  Brad Blumer has driven in 16 runs and sports a .325 average.  The pitching staff has a 6.53 ERA.  Aaron Kleekamp has been the team's top pitcher with a 2-2 record, two saves, a shutout and a 3.90 ERA.

The Cardinals are 5-3 all-time against the Aggies.
