Men's Tennis 1-1 in Edinburg

EDINBURG, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's tennis team played a match on Friday and Saturday on the UT-Pan American campus and came away with a 5-2 win over Prairie View A&M and a 7-0 loss to UT-Pan American. (Match 1, Match 2)

In the win over Prairie View, the Cardinals (10-4) won two of three doubles matches to earn a point and then took 4-of-6 singles matches.  Leo Ivic (Podstrana, Croatia/Economic Administration) teamed with Aiden DeLeon (Corpus Christi/Flour Bluff HS) to win at #1 doubles, 8-6 over Jackson Varney and Craig Wiltz.  He came back with a three-set win over Varney in #1 singles 5-7, 6-4, 6-0 for a crucial win.

The duo of Luke Trautmann (San Antonio/Health Careers HS) and Tucker Brown (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) were each 2-0 against Prairie View.  They won their #3 doubles match 8-2 over Rasaki Gibadamosi and Trenton Johnson.  Trautmann knocked off Johnathan Dingle 6-3, 7-6 (3) in #6 singles while Brown defeated Ronald Chidzikwe 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 at #4 singles.  Brandon Davis (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) also picked up a straight sets win at #2 singles.

The Cardinals were shutout of the win column against UT-Pan American.  Ivic came the closest to a win for UIW by extending Thomas Panoulas to three sets at #1 singles.  Panoulas prevailed 2-6, 6-4, 10-8.

The Cardinals are back in action on Sunday against University of New Orleans at 11 a.m. in Edinburg.
