SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team will play their final home match of the season on Friday at 7 p.m. against Southland Conference rival Abilene Christian University at the McDermott Center.
The Cardinals (11-11, 6-7) will be celebrating Senior Night and will honor their three seniors;
Sarah Cardenas (San Antonio/O'Connor HS), Beth Soukup (Helotes/O'Connor HS) and
Danielle Suarez (San Antonio/Antonian HS) prior to the start of the match.
The Cardinals played the Wildcats (6-15, 2-11) in Abilene back on October 19. UIW won the match in three sets 25-15, 25-19, 25-22. A win would give the Cardinals a .500 record in conference play.
The Cardinals are averaging 12.55 kills and 14.73 digs per set for the season.
Angelique Vidaurri (San Antonio/Southwest HS) leads the team with 2.94 kills per set and a .217 attack percentage while
Shaina Garza (San Antonio/Warren HS) is contributing 2.88 kills and 2.65 digs per set. Suarez directs the offense with 5.74 assists per set while Cardenas leads the defense with 3.68 digs per set.
Brittani Dear (La Vernia/La Vernia HS) adds 2.37 kills and 3.44 digs per set to the team.
The Wildcats are averaging 10.85 kills and 15.87 digs per set. Jennifer Loerch leads the team with 3.19 kills per set while Lexi Mercier is averaging 1.84 kills and 1.52 blocks per set. Madison Hoover leads the team with 471 digs per set while Sarah Siemens is handing out 8.29 assists per set.
