UIW Playing SFA

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team welcomes Southland Conference rival Stephen F. Austin to the McDermott Center on Thursday night at 7 p.m.

The Cardinals (10-10, 5-6) are in the final stretch of the season with only five matches to play.  Three wins would snap a streak of three straight losing seasons for the team.

UIW is averaging 12.70 kills per set this year with a .190 attack percentage.  The top attacker on the team is sophomore Angelique Vidaurri (San Antonio/Southwest HS) who is averaging 3.07 kills and 0.73 blocks per set with a .233 attack.  Freshmen Shaina Garza (San Antonio/Warren HS) and Brittani Dear (La Vernia/La Vernia HS) have both played well this year.  Garza is averaging 2.92 kills and 2.53 digs per set with a .213 attack while Dear is averaging 2.32 kills and 3.52 digs per set with a .165 attack.  Danielle Suarez (San Antonio/Antonian HS) directs the offense with 5.78 assists per set.

The Lady Jacks (13-12, 5-7) have a few more attacking options than the Cardinals with six players who have over 100 kills for the year.  Jill Ivy leads the team with 3.17 kills per set with a .254 attack.  Leslie Jackson and Paige Holland each have an attack percentage over .300.  Holland is also averaging 8.28 assists per set.  The top defensive players on the team are Jacque Allen with 1.12 blocks per set and O.J. Olson who has 4.88 digs per set.

This is the first ever meeting between the Cardinals and the Lady Jacks.
