Cardinals Head to #18 Dayton

DAYTON, OHIO – The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team travel north to University of Dayton to face what is set to be their toughest game of the year.

Coming off of a triumphant win last weekend, the Cardinals (3-3-0) are back in action in another tough fixture this Friday, perhaps the toughest one of the season. They head a staggering 1254 miles north to face the Dayton Flyers.

The Flyers are the first Division I side that the Cardinals will face that have been nationally ranked. Currently placed at 18th with an 8-0-0 record, the Flyers have had a fantastic start to the season. A goals per game average of 2.88 is not only markedly higher than the Cardinals 1.67, but it also puts them tied first in the nation for scoring offense.

Leading the attack for the Flyers is midfielder Abe Keller from Kreuzlingen, Switzerland, who has scored a total of seven goals and made five assists on the year so far.

His counterpart and a pivotal player in the Cardinals offensive formation is midfielder Alex De La Garza (Mission, Sharyland HS) who currently holds the top spot in offense, leading with a total of three goals.  Senior James Nero (Charlotte, NC/Olympic HS) headlines a stout UIW defense that has only allowed eight goals on the season.
