2012 (Junior):  Nero was named the Lone Star Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and followed through by winning the LSC Defensive Player of the Year award.  He anchored a backline that registered nine shutouts and played all but 29 minutes on the season.  The central defender was a key reason why the team posted a 0.98 goals against average.  He scored his only goal of the season in a 3-2 win at #17 West Texas A&M.  He was named the LSC Defensive Player of the Week twice during the season.  He racked up numerous postseason honors including LSC First Team, Daktronics First Team All-South Central Region and Honorable Mention All-American, NSCAA First Team All-South Central Region and Third Team All-American, LSC All-Academic Team and Capital One Academic All-District VI First Team.  He was also named to the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll.

2011 (Sophomore):  Nero earned First Team All-LSC honors at defender as he helped lead the Cardinals to a 14-3-3 record and a trip to the second round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs. He was named to the Daktronics All-South Central Region First Team.  He was a big reason why the team allowed a 0.72 GAA for the season.  He was named to the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll.  He scored goals in back-to-back wins over St. Mary's and Northeastern State.  He started all 20 games of the season.

2010 (Freshman):  Nero took home First Team All-LSC honors and was named the LSC Freshman of the Year following a season in which he helped lead the team to a 13-2-3 record and posted a 0.91 GAA.  He was also named First Team NSCAA All-South Central Region at defender.  He scored one goal on the season.

High School:  Nero was on the soccer team at Olympic High School in Charlotte, North Carolina.  He earned All-State honors and was the Region Conference Player of the Year as a senior.  He was a three-time All-Region and All-Conference defender.

Personal:  Nero is the son of David and Karen Nero and is studying biology.  He has three siblings; Patrick, Caitlin and Bryan.  He was born on February 4, 1992.
