Box Score NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team picked up their fourth consecutive road victory on Thursday night with a 23-25, 25-22, 25-3, 25-17 at University of New Orleans. The Cardinals moved to .500 in the Southland Conference with the win.
The Privateers (3-22, 0-12) won a tight first set by scoring six of the final nine points. However, the Cardinals (10-9, 5-5) bounced back by winning a close second set and then they blew out UNO, 25-3 in the second set, the largest margin of victory for the season. In the final set, the Cardinals trailed 11-7 before closing out the match on a 14-6 run. Freshman
Brittani Dear (La Vernia/La Vernia HS) picked up the final three points for UIW with three kills.
The Cardinals appear to be peaking at the right time of the season. After not posting a .300+ attack percentage all season long, the team has eclipsed the mark in back-to-back contests. They pounded out 55 kills with a .312 attack against the Privateers. They added 59 digs and nine service aces in the match.
Angelique Vidaurri (San Antonio/Southwest HS) led UIW with 17 kills and a .387 attack. Dear posted her seventh double-double of the season with 14 kills, 15 digs, four aces and a .433 attack percentage.
Shaina Garza (San Antonio/Warren HS) added 12 blocks while
Sarah Cardenas (San Antonio/O'Connor HS) led the team with 16 digs.
Danielle Suarez (San Antonio/Antonian HS) dished out 31 of the team's 50 assists.
The Privateers had 35 kills, 45 digs and a .145 attack percentage. Alyssa Podwell led the team with 10 kills and a .364 attack. Celeste Ramirez dished out 29 assists while Lauren Levy led the team with 13 digs.
The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday at 2 p.m. when they travel to Southland Conference rival Southeastern Louisiana.
