On the Road Again

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of Incarnate Word will hit the road to play against Southland Conference opponent, Abilene Christian University this Saturday at 7 p.m.

Abilene Christian (5-11, 1-7), like Angelo State and Texas A&M-Kingsville, is one of the schools that are scheduled to play the Cardinals (8-9, 3-5) twice this season.  ACU has been struggling this season since their transition to Division I from last season.  The Wildcats were also swept by Lamar and lost in five sets to Sam Houston State last week.  The Cardinals are the only team in the SLC to defeat Sam Houston State this year.

ACU's Jennifer Loerch leads the offense with 186 kills, 3.21 kills per set, and a .109 attack.  Lexi Mercier follows with 110 kills and a .220 attack percentage while leading the conference with 1.57 blocks per set.

The Cardinals will counter then with weapons like Angelique Vidaurri (San Antonio/Southwest HS) who leads the team with 3.08 kills per set and a .233 attack. Freshman Shaina Garza (San Antonio/Warren HS) has been a pleasant surprise this year with 2.79 kills per set and a .236 attack percentage.  Danielle Suarez (San Antonio/Antonian HS) became the sixth player in the program's history with over 2,000 career assists eclipsing that mark in the team's last match.
