SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team is flying high after three consecutive wins and they will try to stretch it to four on Saturday afternoon when they host Southland Conference rival Lamar University at 2 p.m. in the McDermott Center.
In a rare instance of Cardinals playing against Cardinals, the UIW version enters the match with an 8-8 record and 3-4 mark in conference play. They knocked off Sam Houston State on Thursday night to give the Bearkats their first conference loss of the season. UIW's top attacking options are sophomore
Angelique Vidaurri (San Antonio/Southwest HS) who averages 3.08 kills per set with a .228 attack percentage and freshman
Shaina Garza (San Antonio/Warren HS) who is averaging 2.88 kills and 2.58 digs per set. Senior setter
Danielle Suarez (San Antonio/Antonian HS) needs just one more assist to give her 2,000 for her career. She is averaging 5.78 assists per set.
Lamar is fresh off a three-set sweep at Abilene Christian and they are also 3-4 in the Southland. Overall, they have a 5-14 record. Sierra Whittaker and Cortney Moore are the top attackers with 3.45 and 2.41 kills per set, respectively. Setter Alexa Johnson is handing out 8.40 assists per set.
