The Cardinals (1-2, 1-0) were outplayed by the Wildcats (2-3, 0-1) in the first half, but dominated play in the second half. ACU took more shots, more corner kicks and committed fewer fouls than UIW in the first half, but UIW goalkeeper
Heather Kowalik (Boerne/Champion HS) made three saves to keep it a 0-0 score at the half.
In the second half, the Cardinals exploded for three straight goals. ACU's Lexi Stirling was whistled for a red card due to a hand ball in front of the goal in the 52
nd minute of play and
Samantha Johnson (Austin/Home School) converted the penalty kick to put the Cardinals up 1-0.
Katie Miller (Tyler/Tyler JC) put the Cards up 2-0 when she blasted a shot from 20 yards out just under the goal post at 64:55. Substitute
Jazma Latu (San Antonio/Johnson HS) came on late in the game and put one past the goal keeper after a nice pass from Johnson at 79:16.
The Wildcats added a goal from Andrea Carpenter at 82:00 for the final score.
The Cardinals finished the game with 16 shots and four corner kicks while the Wildcats had seven shots and two corner kicks. Kowalik picked up the win after playing all 90 minutes while her counterpart Arielle Moncure was handed the loss despite making three saves.
The Cardinals are back in action on Sunday at noon against Midwestern State at home.
