SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team kicks off their home opener this weekend. They play Lone Star Conference rival Abilene Christian University on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Benson Stadium.
The Cardinals (0-2) opened the season with losses against Regis University and Metro State University of Colorado at a neutral site in Austin. The Wildcats have played four matches and are 2-2 after going 20-2-1 a year ago and reaching the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.
The Cardinals suffered a pair of one-goal losses in the opening weekend of their season.
Sydney Solomon (Schertz/Randolph),
Jordyn Garcia (Cedar Park/Leander) and
Amber Guenther (San Antonio/Johnson) each scored a goal for the team in Austin. Guenther was the leading scorer for the Cardinals last season with five goals. Freshman
Elizabeth Washington (Frisco/Centennial) started and played both matches of the season in full as a defender.
After Friday's match with Abilene Christian, the Cardinals will take on Midwestern State University at home on Sunday at 12 p.m.
