On a day that was supposed to set up the championship matchup for Tuesday in the 2012 Lone Star Conference Baseball Championship, Mother Nature had a different idea for the second day in a row.
The University of the Incarnate Word, the tournament's No. 3 seed, was supposed to play Abilene Christian University this afternoon at 3:30 p.m., with the winner to go on and play at 7 p.m. against the winner of a noon contest between Angelo State and Tarleton State.
At this moment – 9:30 p.m. Monday night – the game between the Rams and the Texans still has not been played a full nine innings due to multiple weather delays.
Because of these delays, the 7 p.m. game was rescheduled to Tuesday morning sometime during Monday afternoon by tournament officials… and then, later on, the 3:30 p.m. contest was also rescheduled for Tuesday at 11 a.m.
The stakes are still the same for Incarnate Word and ACU: the winner plays the loser of the Tarleton State-Angelo State matchup (ASU was ahead 15-0 when the latest weather delay was called) immediately following at 3 p.m.
A new wrinkle to the tournament schedule, however, is that the winner of the 3 p.m. game will have to play a third game at 7 p.m. – meaning that there is the possibility that either UIW or ACU will have to play three games, back-to-back-to-back, in order to get to the LSC Championship game – and THEN, if Cardinals or the Wildcats are able to defeat ASU in the late game on Tuesday, it will set up a final matchup on Wednesday, since Angelo State has not lost a game yet in the tournament.
