UIW WIN STREAK SNAPPED

ABILENE, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team saw their five match winning streak snapped on Sunday with a 1-0 loss at Lone Star Conference rival Abilene Christian. (Box Score)

The Wildcats (5-9-1, 3-7-1) broke a 0-0 tie with less than five minutes remaining in regulation.  After earning a corner kick, the ball found its way to Julie Coppedge at the top of the box.  She fired a great shot into the top left corner of the net to provide the winning margin.

After giving up the goal, the Cardinals (7-6, 7-4) had one more chance to score.  Amber Guenther's (San Antonio/Johnson HS) shot attempt was saved by ACU goalkeeper Arielle Moncure with 2:28 left in regulation.

The Wildcats took six more shots than the Cardinals, 14-8, and earned six corner kicks while UIW did not have a single one.  Moncure picked up the shutout after making five saves.

Karly Brightwell (Houston/Elkins HS) took the loss for the Cardinals in goal despite making six saves.

The Cardinals are back in action on Friday at home against West Texas A&M at 7 p.m. in a game that could decide who will host the conference tournament.
