The Cardinals took on Oklahoma Panhandle and Eastern New Mexico at the second day of the Lady Buff Invitational and ended the day with two exciting wins.

INCARNATE WORD 3, OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE 0

(25-14, 25-16, 25-17)

The Cardinals started out the day with a quick three set match against the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle.  UIW had a solid match, not dropping a single set to the Aggies.

Senior setter Sarah Nordman had an impressive 33 assists in the match and junior outside hitter Stephanie Bonura had 12 kills.  Senior outside hitter Chelsea Grayson and freshman middle blocker Baleigh Schaetter both registered 8 kills.

Alexandra Schmitt, junior libero, tried to keep the Aggies in the game with 10 digs and freshman setter Terra Madden connected with the Aggies as much as she could, ending the match with 16 assists.

INCARNATE WORD 3, EASTERN NEW MEXICO 1

(25-23, 25-16, 22-25, 25-16)

After a long seven hour break, UIW took on Eastern New Mexico to end the tournament.  In an exciting four set match, the Cardinals put the Zias away.

Instead of scoring points this match, junior outside hitter Stephanie Bonura was keeping points from being scored by the Zias with 23 digs.  As she did in the first day of the tournament, sophomore setter Danielle Suarez set UIW up as often as she could and connected for 32 assists.  The Cardinals had 54 kills as a team.  13 of those kills belonged to Chelsea Grayson, senior outside hitter, while another 12 were earned by senior middle blocker Anna Herr.

The Zias only registered 35 kills as a team.  Amber Durand, junior outside hitter, led ENMU with 13 kills and newcomer, freshman setter Kennedi Catano had 19 assists.  The Zias fought hard to stay in the game with the Cardinals leaving Dallas Russell, junior libero, with 19 digs.

The Cardinals improved their overall record to 4-5.  The Cardinals hit the road again on Tuesday, Sept. 13 and will take on Abilene Christian at 7 p.m.
