CARDS DROP DOUBLEHEADER

UIW second baseman John Zule hit his first home run of the season on Saturday.

In Stephenville, the University of the Incarnate Word baseball team took on the No. 16 team in NCAA Division II and dropped both games of the doubleheader to Tarleton State, 3-2 and 13-10.

In game one, UIW was outhit 9-to-5, but was tied, 2-2 going into the bottom of the ninth when Tarleton State was able to get the game-winning run across the plate following a couple of singles against Elroy Urbina.

Urbina took his first loss of the season.

UIW's only multi-hit batter was first baseman Matt Roohan, who went 2-for-3.

In the second game, Both teams poured on the hitting and the runs, with Incarnate Word getting 12 hits, including a double by Daniel Qualls and home runs by John Zule and Mike De la Rosa.

Zule finished 2-for-3 at the plate while Ryan Flowers had a team-leading 3-for-5 day. Steven Vidaurri finished 2-for-4.

Keith Vasquez went 3 1/3, giving up seven runs on seven hits and ended up with the loss.

The Cardinals (4-4 overall, 4-2 in the Lone Star Conference) return home to Sullivan Field on Sunday for a one-game matchup against Texas-Permian Basin at 1 p.m.
