ROOHAN HITS TWO HOMERS VS SEU

Matt Roohan hit two home runs in Game 1 of Friday's 7-3 win over St. Edward's.

The Incarnate Word baseball team stayed in first place in the Heartland Conference with a 7-3 victory on the road against St. Edward's University on Friday afternoon.

The Cardinals, now 18-5 overall and 18-3 in the conference, scored three runs in the first inning on a three-run homer by Matt Roohan and then added four more runs in the seventh after St. Edward's University had closed the gap to a 3-2 lead – Roohan connecting on his second home run of the game as part of a six-hit inning for UIW.

Kirk Jewasko pitched six out of seven innings to improve his record to 7-0 on the year while Alfredo Caballero shut down the SEU offense, striking out two batters and ending the comeback attempt.

The Cardinals and Hilltoppers were supposed to play two games on Friday, but darkness suspended game two, which will be continued on Saturday at 1 p.m. before the two squads play the third game of the three-game series.
