Gabryel Ording

  • Title
    Head Volleyball Coach

Gabryel "Gabby" Ording was named the Head Women's Volleyball Coach in Janurary of 2023. Ording spent the last three seasons as an associate head coach at conference foe, Southeastern Louisiana University. She is the eighth head coach in UIW Women's Volleyball program history.

Ording led the Cardinals to new heights in her second season at the helm. She led UIW to the program's most wins and most conference wins in a single-season since turning Division I in 2013. Ording also guided the Cardinals to its second straight trip to the SLC Tournament, where they defeated UTRGV in the quarterfinals to advance to the conference semifinals for the first time since 2021. In her first recruiting class she brought in nine freshman and one transfer. Freshman, Calissa Allison was the Cardinals' lone All-Conference selection. Allison led the team in kills (276), points (318), and service aces (24). She also finished second on the team in assists (494) and digs (299). The freshman Co-captain finished the season with 11 triple-doubles, good enough for second in the country. Allison's 11 triple-doubles were the most in school history in a single season, the most in the SLC in a single season, and the second most by a freshman in NCAA history.

In her first year at UIW, Ording led the program to a record of 15-16. The 15 wins are the most the University's volleyball program has ever had since transitioning to Division I in 2013.

In her past four seasons at SLU, Ording has helped coach the Lions to two of the winningest seasons since 2002 and the highest finish in the Southland Conference Tournament. This past season, she guided the team to their first SLC Championship to receive an automatic NCAA Tournament bid. In addition to the on-court success, Ording has scouted numerous record-breaking student-athletes for the Lions. Most recently, 2021 Freshman All-Southland Player and the AVCA South Region Player of the year, Cicily Hidalgo.

Prior to her time in Hammond, Ording was an assistant coach at her alma mater, Louisiana Tech University. For the seven years that she was there, Ording oversaw the players' strength and conditioning programs, nutrition plans, and helped the team create daily practice itineraries.

Before moving to the sidelines, Ording played as a middle and right-side hitter for the Bulldogs from 2008-12. As a student-athlete, she helped lead her team to the most conference wins since 2002 and four back-to-back Western Athletic Conference tournaments.
