Biography

2015 (Junior): Koenigs played in 15 games her junior year and started in 14 of them. She took an incredible 41 shots, 13 of them which were on goal, making her the highest-shooter on the team for the 2015 season. She was tied for the team lead in goals scored with four. She was one of eight Cardinals to play over 1,000 minutes. In the game against UTRGV she gave the Cardinals a 1-0 win with a golden goal with less than three minutes remaining in the second overtime. She was one of five Cardinals to be named to the UTRGV All-Tournament team. On Aug. 30, Koenigs scored two goals against Prairie View A&M.

2014 (Sophomore): Koenigs was affected by an injury in her sophomore year which limited her to 13 games and nine starts. She played a total of 779 minutes in the midfield and fired a total of 16 shots with six shots on goal. In a 2-0 shutout against McNeese State she came close to scoring both goals, but her first attempt was denied after she hit the crossbar. Shortly afterwards she scored her only goal of the season after she headed home a corner kick.  She started the final nine games of the year and was a big reason why the Cardinals finished the season strong.  She played at least 70 minutes in each of the final seven games of the season.  She was named to the Southland Commissioner's Honor Roll.

2013 (Freshman): Koenigs had a great start to her career as a Cardinal, confidently earning her place in the starting line-up and only missing one game as true freshman. As an attacking midfielder she posted a total of seven goals, second highest  on the team, with one assist and 51 shots. Her first career goal came in a 6-0 victory over Texas A&M-International where a diving header sealed goal number two for the Cardinals. She had a season highlight against Texas Southern after opening up the scoresheet for the Cardinals with a confident finish from a cross and adding a second goal in the second half.  She tallied goals in three straight conference games against Central Arkansas, at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and at Abilene Christian.  She was named onto the Southland Commissioner's Honor Roll.

High School:  Koenigs was on the soccer team at Brandeis High School.  She was the 2012 and 2013 San Antonio Express News Player of the Year.  She made the National All-Region Team and was First Team All-State.  She was a four-time first team all-district selection and was the District Offensive MVP on three occasions.  She holds school records for most goals in a season (21), most goals in a career (65) and most assists in a career (37).  She was a 2013 All-American Scholar, the only one from Texas.  She led her team to three district championships and four playoff appearances.  She was a member of the National Honor Society, Math Honor Society and German Honor Society.

Personal:  Koenigs is the daugher of Walter and Janalle Koenigs and is studying biology with a minor in psychology.  She has a brother, Andrew.  She was born on August 26, 1995.  Her cousin, Shannon Atkins, played basketball at Concordia-Texas.  She volunteers at the San Antonio Food Bank and with the Humane Society.
