Beverly Holmes

Beverly Holmes, a San Antonio native, joined the University of the Incarnate Word women’s basketball staff as an assistant coach in May of 2019.  
Holmes was promoted to recruiting coordinator in May of 2022 and in the fall of 2022, the Cardinals signed three student-athletes all ranked in the state of Texas (Premier Basketball), one of which was in the Texas Top 50. The 2023-24 season will mark Holmes’ fifth year at UIW.

Since joining UIW under Head Coach Jeff Dow, the Cardinals have notched 11 more wins than the previous six seasons combined, captured the Southland Conference Tournament Championship (2022) and played in the NCAA Tournament (2022). Off the court, the Cardinals have exceeded a team 3.0 cumulative grade point average, achieved a 100 percent graduation rate for all student-athletes who played their senior season at UIW, and completed over 1,300 hours of community service.
 
The 2022-23 season was a historical year. The Cardinals broke school records in overall wins (15), conference wins (10), highest conference finish (fourth), longest win streak (6 games), and for the first time since becoming Division I in 2013-14, UIW finished with a winning record (15-14).  Defensively the 2022-23 squad broke the previous school record set in 2021-22 by allowing only 58.3 points per game.
 
At UIW, Holmes oversees the development of the point guards and shooting guards. She has worked with and developed multiple all-conference players including: Nina De Leon (Newcomer of the Year, All-Defense, Second Team All-Conference 2022-23), Jaaucklyn Moore (First Team All-Conference, All-Tournament Team 2021-22), and Imani Robinson (First Team All-Conference 2019-20). This past season, UIW led the Southland in assist-to-turnover ratio (.951), establishing a school record,while setting a program record in 3-point field goal percentage (34.8%) for Southland Conference games only, and leading the league in made 3-point field goals per game.
 
Prior to UIW, Holmes was at the University of Louisiana- Monroe serving as Director of Women’s Basketball Operations (2018-2019) and Graduate Assistant (2017-18).
 
Holmes played for Millsaps College for four years, helping guide her team to three regular season conference championships.
 
Holmes received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Millsaps College in 2016 and a Master of Business Administration, with a concentration in psychology, from the University of Louisiana Monroe in 2018.
