Cunningham spent the last six seasons as an assistant coach for the Cardinals. She has been a part of a coaching staff that has taken the women's basketball program to new heights. Â
In the 2024-25 season, Cunningham helped guide the Red and Black to a first-round bye and the fourth seed in the SLC Tournament for the third year in a row. They then reached the semi-finals and were selected to the postseason Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT).    Â
The 2023-24 squad broke multiple program records. The team set a new school record for overall wins, surpassing the mark previously set in 2022-23. The 19-11 record marked a school record for overall winning percentage (.633). The number of conference wins (12) broke the school record.  Â
The 2022-23 team broke the school record for overall wins set in 2019-20 and 2021-22. The 15-14 record marked UIW's first overall winning record since becoming Division I. The number of conference wins (10) matched the school record set in 2019-20. In addition to a program-best fourth-place finish in the conference standings, school records were set for conference winning percentage (.556) and consecutive games won. Â
Cunningham's third season as an assistant coach at UIW in 2021-22 saw the Cardinals win the Southland Conference tournament championship and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, both of which were firsts in UIW women's basketball history. Â
The 2020-21 season was disrupted by games canceled due to COVID-19 and a mid-February ice storm. The Cardinals qualified for the Southland Conference tournament for the second time in school history.  Â
In her first season with the Cardinals, 2019-20, Cunningham helped lead the team to a 14-15 overall record and a 10-10 record in conference play, marking the best record at the time since the team moved up to Division I in 2013-14.  Â
Before joining the UIW coaching staff, Cunningham came to the Cardinals after two years outside of the collegiate coaching ranks. During the 2018-19 season, she was an assistant coach for the Alamo City Aztecs of the Minor League Basketball Association (2018-19). Here, she helped guide the team to a 6-1 record and a berth in the regional championship game.  Â
Prior to her time in San Antonio, Cunningham spent three years (2014-17) as a recruiting coordinator at the University of Louisiana Monroe.  Â
Before joining the Warhawks, Cunningham spent the 2013-14 season as the video coordinator at Rice.  Â
She began her coaching career in the high school ranks as an assistant coach at Fairfax High School in her hometown of Los Angeles. During the 2012-13 season, Fairfax posted a 24-7 record and reached the CIF Los Angles Section Division I Championship Game. Â
Cunningham played collegiately at Rice (2002-06), where she helped guide the Owls to 79 wins and a trio of postseason appearances (WNIT Second Round, 2004; NCAA First Round, 2005; WNIT First Round, 2006). The 2004-05 squad that reached the NCAA Tournament finished 24-9 overall and won both the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) regular season and tournament titles.    Â
Following her collegiate career, Cunningham had a four-year professional career in Europe. During her overseas stint, she played for Viernheim (Germany), Alexandria (Romania), Forssa (Finland), Gotha (Germany) and Sandhausen (Germany). Â
Cunningham graduated from Rice with a bachelor's degree in psychology in 2006 and earned her master's degree in teaching from USC in 2013. Â
