Biography

2017-18 (Senior): Johnson started all 25 games on the year. He played a team high 31.6 minutes a game. He made a team high 52 three-pointers. He averaged 11.5 points per game, a team high 6.2 rebounds per game, led the team in both steals (39) and blocks (38). He was second on the team with 45 assists. He recorded a new career-high in points (28) against Houston Baptist. In the same game he posted a season-high 17 rebounds. He scored over 20 points five times this year. Johnson earned an Honorable Mention All-Southland this season. He ranks second all-time in defensive rebounds (590), second in blocked shots (150), third in 3-point field goals made (197), third in defensive rebound average (5.1), third in blocked shots average (1.3), fourth in total rebounds (710), fourth in minutes played (3,314), fifth in total steals (137), fifth in games started (93), tied-for-sixth in games played (115), and 10th in free throws made (252). In the 2016-17 season, Johnson's 46 blocked shots were the sixth-most in program history in a single season, while his 44 this season rank seventh all-time. He is 13th with 1,236 career points.

2016-17 (Junior): Johnson made 25 starts for the Cardinals. He shot 45 percent from the floor and led UIW with 70 three-pointers. Johnson averaged 14.1 points and seven rebounds per game. He tallied 47 assists, 36 steals and 46 blocks. 

2015-16 (Sophomore): Johnson played in all 29 games with 24 starts. He averaged 9.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. He scored a career-high 27 points in the season finale against Houston Baptist, highlighted by a posterizing dunk that made SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays of the week. He posted four double-doubles on the season, shot 44 percent from the floor, and had 34 blocked shots, 26 assists, and 27 steals.

2014-15 (Freshman):  Johnson started 13 games as a freshman for the Cardinals and he opened up his career with a double-double against UT-Tyler. On November 24, Johnson had six blocks to go along with nine points and eight rebounds in a win over A&M-International.  In the game at UTEP, he came off the bench and had five steals to lead the team, and then two days later he had a crucial steal to help defeat Nebraska.  He scored a season high 18 points and grabbed six rebounds at Northwestern State.  He scored in double figures in 10 games and posted solid shooting numbers across the board.  He shot 44.7 percent from the field, 38.0 percent from three-point range and 71.6 percent from the foul line. He was inserted into the starting lineup on February 10 against Nicholls and started the rest of the season.  
  
High School:
  Johnson, a New Orleans native, moved to Houston and played basketball at Alief Hastings High School.  He was the District 18-5A MVP and he earned All-America honors as a senior.  He was a two-time District 18-5A First Team selection and was the team MVP as a junior.  He averaged 15.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game in 2012-13 and was named to a pair of all-tournament teams.  He led the team to a pair of playoff appearances.  He was ranked as the #92 player in the state of Texas by Rivals.com.  He graduated in the top 10 percent of his class.

Personal:  Johnson is the son of Kenya Johnson and is studying engineering management.  He has four siblings; Shakayla, Rudy, Hannah and Kaleb.  He was born on October 12, 1995.  He volunteers time at the UIW Wellness Center.
