Biography

High School: Averaged 17 points, 7.8 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 2.8 steals per game as a senior … named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ Class 6A-2 all-region team as a junior… three-time all-district basketball player … made the Houston Chronicle’s VYPE Magazine all-Houston basketball team in March 2017 … won the Ambassador Award bestowed by the Conroe Independent School District … played for Coach Dale Reed at The Woodlands High.

Said retired NBA star John Lucas, presently a player-development coach for the Houston Rockets, about Wilbert:

"He is a strong, big-bodied guard [who] put on a dominant performance throughout the camp, as he attacked the basket at will with great success. This is a prospect who is built to absorb contact at the rim. He displayed improved finishing ability from close range throughout the high school season. He excels in transition and is nearly impossible to stop once he gets his shoulders past his defender."

Personal: Romello’s parents, Shanae and Joe Wilbert III, were each basketball letter winners at Texas A&M. Joe, who ranks second in points scored in a season at A&M, played professional basketball in Europe for three years … born April 16, 1999 in Bryan, Texas … business major.

Coach Cunningham says: “A stellar classroom operator, Romello has considerable power and strength for a freshman, coupled with an instinctive feel for the pick and roll game. He competes with great intensity and is eager to ply his craft -- all of this will serve him well as he develops.”
