Margie Olivares joined UIW Athletics as the media relations coordinator in August 2019. She serves as the primary contact for football, women's basketball, volleyball, men's and women's cross country and track & field teams, men's and women's swimming and diving teams, and synchronized swimming team. 

In 2020, Olivares was one of six nationwide who earned the NCAA/CoSIDA Inclusion Grant. The NCAA Inclusion CoSIDA Convention Gran is an annual professional development opportunity geared toward countering the gap of inclusion, advancement and retention within the field of media relations/communications for women and ethnic minorities. 
 
Olivares joins the Cardinals after a season as the public relations assistant at Southern Methodist University (SMU). With the Mustangs, she was in charge of the men’s and women’s golf teams, the men’s soccer team and was the assistant for the men’s basketball team.
 
While at SMU, Olivares’ tasks included writing previews and recaps for the golf teams, updating record books and player bios. As the men’s basketball assistant, Olivares assisted with the update of game notes prior to games and wrote and sent out post game notes after each game.
 
Olivares traveled with the men’s golf team as the SID to the 2019 NCAA Golf Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., where she covered the team while they were competing posting on social media, coordinating interviews and writing recaps after each day of competition. The men’s golf team made it to the quarterfinals where they faced Oklahoma State in Match Play.
 
Prior to her role at SMU, Olivares worked as an intern at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). While at UTEP, she was tasked with stating all home volleyball games using StatCrew, assisted with graphics, wrote some women’s soccer recaps and conducted social media during football games.
 
Prior to working with the Miners she worked two seasons with the Sun Bowl Association as a media relations intern, first as an undergraduate student in 2016 and again in 2018. As an intern, Olivares helped coordinate social media and graphic creation for the Hyundai Sun Bowl, the West Star Bank Don Haskins Invitational, the Sun Bowl All-America Golf Classic as well as other events hosted by the association.
 
Olivares earned her bachelor’s degree in public relations from Texas Tech University in 2017. She earned an MBA in Sports Management from Escuela Universitaria Real Madrid (Real Madrid Graduate School) in Madrid, Spain in 2018.
