Bret Huth joined the University of the Incarnate Word football program as the director of strength and conditioning in the spring of 2018.

In Huth’s second season with the Cardinals (2019), he created a workout regime that helped UIW win five games and set multiple records. UIW had four third team All-Southland Conference selections: Terence Hickman II (offense), Brandon Floores (offense), Kelechi Anyalebechi (defense) and Jaylon Jimmerson (defense).

Jon Copeland was named to the HERO Sports Sophomore All-America honorable mention team, while Jaylon Jimmerson earned HERO Sports Freshman All-America honorable mention team honors.

Additionally, Copeland broke the single season passing yard record for UIW, becoming the first QB to eclipse 3,000 yards in a single season. He now has 6,325 career passing yards, just 143 yards shy of breaking the career passing record at UIW.

Huth designed and implemented a workout program that helped guide the Cardinals to the most successful season in program history. UIW went from 1-1 in 2017 prior to Huth’s arrival to 6-5, a Southland Conference Championship, and an FCS Playoff berth in 2018.

Prior to the Cardinals, Huth worked as the assistant director of strength and conditioning with the Rice football team in 2017. While with the Owls, Huth helped guide the team through a football game in Sydney, Australia. Huth formulated a plan for the team to follow leading up to and throughout the trip, including exercises on the plane and workouts upon arrival.

Before Rice, Huth spent three seasons with the football program at Cal. After two seasons as an assistant director of strength and conditioning Huth was promoted to associate strength and conditioning coach for his final season.

While with the Bears, Huth’s responsibilities include providing objective reporting to the football coaching staff and implementing energy system specific conditioning programs. Huth was heavily involved in training quarterbacks, including the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Jared Goff.

He first created an overseas travel plan with Cal, helping the Bears to 51-31 victory over Hawaii in Sydney, Australia.

Before joining the Cal program, Huth served as the associate director of athletic performance at Memphis, working with the football and baseball programs. There, he collaborated with the athletic training staff on the rehabilitation of injured student-athletes, provided nutritional guidance for student-athletes, provided consistent evaluation of movement concepts found behind core exercises and implemented corrective exercises based on the needs of individual student-athletes.

From 2012-13, Huth served as the strength and conditioning coordinator for Overhead Sports, while also working as a strength and conditioning coordinator with the football, baseball, volleyball, women’s tennis and softball programs at the University of Louisiana, Monroe.

Prior to joining ULM full time, Huth was a strength and conditioning graduate assistant from 2010-12.

Huth was the head strength and conditioning coach for the football program at Euclid High School in Euclid, Ohio, in 2010. He spent the 2009 season as a strength and conditioning intern with the football program at Kent State.

He played football for John Carroll University from 2005-09.

Huth earned his bachelor’s degrees in exercise science and physical education from John Carroll in 2010 and his master’s degree in exercise science from ULM in 2011.
