John Scifers was promoted to Co-Special Teams Coordinator for the 2026 season, while keeping his title as Video Coordinator.
Scifers joined UIW in 2023 as the Special Teams Quality Control and Video Coordinator where he worked closely with the special team’s units and oversaw all aspects of football video operations.
Scifers has played a key role in the development of record-setting specialists and career highs at UIW. In 2025 Scifers helped develop Will Faris who broke the school record for longest FG with a 57-yard kick. Faris also had the 2nd most FGs made in a season with 12 and the second highest FG percentage in a season with 80%. In the 2024 season, Scifers assisted in coaching Brack Peacock, who has the highest FG percentage in a season with 83.3%. Peacock also has the 2nd highest PAT percentage in a career, 2nd most PATs in a season, and the most FGs made in a season with 15. Other names that have been with Coach Scifers include Ethan Brumgard, who as a kickoff specialist has the 3rd most touchbacks in a season in 2025. In the punting game, Scifers coached Ben D’Aquila, who has the 2nd highest punt average in school history.
As Video Coordinator, Scifers leads a team in managing practice and game video operations and oversees pregame A/V setup and SkyCoach video operations to support coaches and players throughout the season.
Prior to his current role, Scifers served as a Special Teams Analyst and Video Coordinator at the University of West Alabama, where he coached multiple conference Special Teams Players of the Week. He began his collegiate coaching career as a Special Teams Graduate Assistant at UIW.
Scifers holds a Master’s degree in Sport Management from the University of the Incarnate Word and a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Health from the University of West Georgia. In Scifers playing career, he made stops at UIW and West Georgia as a specialist where he was a 2x Southland Conference Champion.
