Dexter McCoil Sr.

Dexter McCoil joined the University of the Incarnate Word football staff in the spring of 2022 serving as the safeties coach and NFL/CFL Liaison. 

Prior to UIW, McCoil was the East Ascension High School Defensive Backs Coach (2020-21). As the defensive Backs coach, he led the defensive backfield to 11 interceptions in just nine games. Three out of four of the starting DBs made all District 1st & 2nd Team honors.

Before East Ascension High School, McCoil was the Lutcher High School Defensive Backs Coach Voluntary (Sept 2018)coached corners, safeties, nickel LBs, and all special teams. He won all the games while coaching where he also coached Zane McCrary the defensive back for Nicholls St. University.
 
McCoil is a two-time state champion in high school football at Lutcher High School, Tulsa’s all-time interception record holder & tied for Conference USA’s interception record holder—18 interceptions. Was named Honorable Mention All American Freshmen Team, Second team all-Conference USA, MVP of Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl, honorable mention all-Conference USA, Conference USA all-freshman team. He also played Professional Football for nine years (AFL, CFL, NFL, & XFL), (1 year)- AFL (LA Kiss) (Four years)- CFL (Edmonton Eskimos, Calgary Stampeders, & Toronto Argonauts). In 2014-CFL Rookie of the year & 2015-CFL Grey Cup Champion both & two-time CFL All-Star & 2021-Toronto Argonauts Defensive Team MVP. He spent one year in the XFL (St. Louis Battle hawks) ---the third Leading Tackler in the whole XFL league in five games played total before COVID-19. He also spent three years in the NFL (San Diego/LA Chargers & San Francisco 49ers) and made the 53-man roster as an undrafted free agent in his first two years of NFL.
