Darin Lovat arrived at Incarnate Word in the spring of 2012 to work with Cardinals athletes as the strength and conditioning coach and he has a wealth of experience in the field.

 

Lovat oversees all daily operations of the Benson Fieldhouse Weight Room.

 

His resume includes 19 years of work at Division I schools all across the nation. He has worked at Nevada-Las Vegas, Austin Peay, UCLA, Eastern Washington, Boston College and most recently three years at Washington State.

 

At UCLA he worked closely with two national championship squads, women’s water polo and men’s volleyball as well as numerous NFL draft picks and US Olympians.  At Eastern Washington his football teams won back-to-back Big Sky titles and the men’s basketball team made a first-ever NCAA tournament appearance.  Among his EWU student-athletes were a Walter Payton Award winner and a Buchanan Award recipient.  At Boston College he assisted with the development of several NFL draftees, most notably the Atlanta Falcons’ Matt Ryan.

 

A native of Albuquerque, N.M., Lovat received his bachelor’s degree in fitness management at UNLV and his master’s degree in exercise science at Austin Peay.

 

He played football at UNLV where he started 47 consecutive games and was named special teams player of the year.  He also was on the conference academic honor roll.

 

Lovat holds certifications from the NSCA, CSCCA and USA Weightlifting.

 

He and his wife, Ann, reside in San Antonio with their children, Eliza and Levi.
