University of the Incarnate Word Athletics

2011 (Junior):  Vela appeared in six games for the Cardinals.  He had three tackles including two tackles for loss and a sack at Tarleton totaling 26 yards lost.  He finished the year with eight tackles.
 
2010 (Sophomore):  Vela saw game action in all 11 games as one of the rotation on the defensive line.  He had three tackles and a tackle for loss against #5 Texas A&M-Kingsville resulting in a safety.  He had three tackles and recovered a fumble at Angelo State.  He made 14 tackles for the season.
 
2009 (Freshman):  Vela made it onto the field in six games and made tackles in five of them.  He had three tackles at Langston and Oklahoma Panhandle State.
 
High School:  As a senior at Blanco High School, Vela earned First Team All-District 27-2A honors as a running back and defensive tackle.  He also earned first team honors at both positions as a junior.
 
Personal:  Vela is studying kinesiology and was born on September 10, 1990.
