Ryan Aguayo

    Ryan Aguayo enters his fifth season with the University of the Incarnate Word baseball team as an assistant coach.   
    In Aguayo’s role, he works primarily with the infielders and hitters.  He is also be heavily involved with recruiting on the offensive side of the ball.  Prior to coming to UIW, Aguayo spent two seasons with the Cuesta College Cougars.  There, he helped in aiding the Cougars to 19 consecutive postseason playoff berths and two conference championships.
    In his first season with the Cardinals, the defense posted the third highest fielding percentage in school history while setting a record for most putouts.  They also posted the third most assists in school history.  The team completed 24 double plays.  On offense, the team improved in both batting averaging and slugging percentage from 2014.
    He spent the 2013 and 2014 campaigns as an assistant coach at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, CA. In his Cuesta stint, Aguayo saw over a dozen players earn scholarships to premier schools, most notably, Zack Dominguez to Long Beach State University and Taylor Anderson to Kansas State University.
    Aguayo spent four summer seasons with the San Luis Obispo Blues coaching in the California Collegiate League from 2011-14.  He was recently named the associate head coach while helping the team win CCL championships in both 2011 and 2012. Aguayo also played with the SLO Blues in the ’08, ’09, ’10 seasons, earning all-league honors twice.
    He graduated from Servite High School in Anaheim, California.  Aguayo played second base and shortstop for the Servite Friars. He received all-league honors twice and was named the Most Valuable Player in the 2006 Orange County All Star game. Aguayo helped the Friars to a league championship and an 18-7 record his senior year.  He played on the USA Youth National team in 2004 and was a drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2006 Amateur Draft.
    Aguayo started his collegiate career at California State University, Fullerton.  In the 2008-09 season, he transferred to play at Cuesta College.  There, he helped the Cougars to a Western State Conference championship title during the 2009 season.  He earned first team All-Southern California accolades as well as all-state honors.  He was Cuesta’s Most Valuable Player in 2009 and was named Western State Conference Player of the Year.  While helping the team to a 24-14 record, Aguayo had a batting average of .401, an on-base percentage of .470, crossed the plate 57 times, and drove in 56 runs.
    An All-WAC selection for the New Mexico State Aggies in 2010, Aguayo was also an academic All-WAC selection honoree.  In his two years at NMSU, he played in 118 games, compiling a .350 average, 124 runs, 156 hits, 33 doubles, 17 homeruns, and 125 RBI’s.  He was a semifinalist nominee for the Brooks Wallace Award.  He graduated from New Mexico State University with a bachelor’s degree of Individualized Studies, with minors in Business Associates, Marketing, and Management.
    He is currently finishing up his Master’s degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine.
