Biography

2013 (Junior):  Garza was twice named the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week and earned LSC Second Team honors.  He opened the season by allowing two earned runs in his first 19.1 innings before suffering an injury.  After missing nearly a month, he came back and tossed 5.0 shutout innings in his first game back against Angelo State (3/24).  He opened the year with 6.0 shutout innings allowing four hits and a walk while striking out eight in a win over Arkansas Tech (2/2).  In his next start, he limited Florida Southern to one hit and one walk while striking out 10 in 6.0 innings (2/9).  He allowed two earned runs or less in eight of his 10 starts and only suffered one bad start.  He finished the year with a team best 2.91 ERA and held opponents to a .230 batting average.

2012 (Sophomore):  Garza appeared in 10 games on the mound going 2-2 with a 4.72 ERA, 17 strikeouts and one save in 26.2 innings for New Mexico.  He started against Nevada on Feb. 19 and at New Mexico St. on Apr. 3.  He struck out a season-high five in 5.1 innings of relief, his longest outing of the year, in earning his first win against San Diego St. on Mar. 18.  He earned his second win in 12-7 victory over TCU on Mar. 25.  He earned first career save in second game of double header at San Diego St. on Apr. 14.

2011 (Freshman):  Garza appeared in 14 games, including two starts, and recorded a 1-3 record with a 5.14 ERA a UNM.  He threw 49 innings, 40.2 of which were in relief.  He picked up only win of the season against Utah in MWC Tournament by striking out six batters in 5.1 innings of relief and allowing only one run on four hits.  He struck out a season-high seven in 6.1 innings out of the bullpen against #8 Oklahoma on May 14.  He pitched a season-high 6.2 innings against #18 Arizona on Mar. 30, allowing only two runs (one earned) on seven hits.  He made his collegiate debut in opening game against #11 Arizona St. on Feb. 18 and threw five scoreless innings of relief.

High School:  Garza attended McAllen High School in McAllen, Texas.  He lettered in baseball.  He was named all-valley MVP and received all-state outfield honors.

Personal:  Garza is the son of Adrian and Ernestina Garza and is studying kinesiology.  He has two siblings, Adrian, Jr. and Andrell.  He was born on March 30, 1992 in Cadereyta, Mexico.  His older brother Adrian played baseball at Odessa Junior College.
