Dance Tryouts 2024-25

Application deadline: May 24th 
TRYOUT DATE: Saturday, May 25th, 2024
Check-In Time: 9:00 a.m.
Start Time: 9:30 a.m.
Location: Incarnate Word High School 
               727 E Hildebrand Ave

Tryout Requirements:

      - SKILLS: double and triple pirouettes, fouette turns, right & left grande jetes, russian/leaps in second, calypsos, toe touch, single attitude/firebird leap, turning disk, tilt leaps, high kicks , kip up, headspring, ADDITIONAL but not required: aerials

      - Be a current UIW student or an accepted incoming student for summer/fall 2024 

      - Complete tryout application and waiver 

      - Have current physical or obtain a UIW Spirit Physical (print and filled out by a physician and bring to tryouts)

       - 4x6 headshot AND full body shot (photos used for identification and will not be returned)

       - pay a $30 nonrefundable tryout fee

What to Wear:

      - women: sports bra Spanx or black leggings, hair down and curled, NO jewelry (with the exception of stud earrings and medical jewelry), all tattoos MUST be covered, tennis shoes and jazz shoes or half soles

      - men: black t-shirt and black shorts, NO jewelry (with the exception of stud earrings and medical jewelry), all tattoos MUST be covered, tennis shoes and jazz shoes or half soles

What to Expect:

  • tryouts based on: skills evaluation, fight song and sidelines (instructional video will be sent out. MUST learn prior to tryouts), dance combo (taught day of), and interview

Can't Make Tryouts? 
      - please contact coaches at uiwdance@uiwtx.edu immediately
      - tryout application, video submission with skills listed above plus 45sec-1min jazz or pom solo of choice, $30 tryout fee, UIW Spirit Physical, headshot and body shot ALL due by May 24th 
      - schedule zoom interview with coaches

Practices:
      *practice times may be subject to change​​​*
  • Mondays: 6:00am-8:30am
  • Wednesday: 6:00am-8:30am
  • Fridays: 6:00am-8:00am
  • Some Sundays will be required during the 2024-2023 school year
  • lift with strength and conditioning coach TBD
Expenses:
 UIW will cover some camp expenses, practice attire and uniforms. Should the team compete, fundraising will be done to cover some expenses.

Additional Information:
A scholarship of $750 per semester awarded in Fall 2024. Scholarships may increase for Spring 2025 at the coach's discretion. Any members who quit or are removed during or after the Fall semester may be asked to return or pay for any issued attire/items.
