Robledo's Gem Leads UIW to Win Over Lamar

BEAUMONT, TEXAS – Incarnate Word sophomore Jenny Robledo pitched a complete game two-hitter as UIW tallied a 1-0 win over Lamar University on Saturday afternoon at the LU Softball Complex in Southland Conference softball action.

Incarnate Word moves its overall record to 31-17 with a 16-8 record in Southland play, while Lamar is now 28-21 on the year with a 14-10 league mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lamar's only two hits of the game came in the second and fifth innings, both singles, as Robledo (5-3) struck out three batters with just one walk in seven innings.
  • Incarnate Word's lone run came in the third inning as senior Dominique Guerra put a ball in play with the bases loaded to score fellow senior Victoria Altamirano from third.
NOTES
  • Altamirano drew four walks in the game, bringing her total to 11 during the three-game series with Lamar, and scored the only run of the contest.
  • Senior Madison Dorrow was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, while juniors Bryanna Fuentes and Sydney Zenon and sophomore Prisais Quintero each had a hit for Incarnate Word.
  • Saturday's victory was a pivotal one for Incarnate Word as the Cardinals now sit alone in second place in the Southland standings with three conference games to play in the regular season.

Incarnate Word continues its six-game road trip next weekend as UIW concludes the regular season with a three-game SLC series against Southeastern Louisiana on April 24-25 in Hammond, Louisiana.
