Men's Tennis Defeats Islanders for Outright SLC Regular Season Title

SAN ANTONIO – The 2026 regular season came to an end for the University of the Incarnate Word men's tennis team on Tuesday as the Cardinals collected a 4-3 win over Texas A&M - Corpus Christi from the Mabry Tennis Center.

Incarnate Word ends the season 13-3 overall with a perfect 5-0 SLC record, while TAMUCC finishes 15-4 with a 3-2 conference mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Texas A&M - Corpus Christi won the doubles point with identical 6-3 victories at Nos. 2 and 3.
  • Sophomore Alejandro Hernandez won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1, and grad student Emilio Vila also won by a 6-4, 6-4 score at No. 2.
  • Freshman Santiago Flyckt was a 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 winner at No. 5, while the Islanders collected wins at Nos. 4 and 6 to set up a winner-take-all match in the third flight.
  • Sophomore Marcel Miralles did not disappoint, clinching the match with a 6-4, 7-6 decision on court three to secure the Cardinals' claim to the outright 2026 SLC Regular Season Championship.

Incarnate Word will be the top overall seed in next week's Southland Championships, where they will take on tournament host and fourth-seeded Lamar University on Monday, April 20, at 10:00 a.m. in Beaumont, Texas.
