Men's Basketball Loses to the Lions in Hammond

HAMMOND, La. - The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team lost its final game of a three-game road stretch to the Southeastern Louisiana Lions, 74-62, on Monday night. The Cardinals will return to the nest on Saturday to take on the New Orleans Privateers.

Davion Bailey scored 20 points while shooting a staggering 50 percent from beyond the arc. Jordan Pyke scored 13 points and Esteban Mann was cleaning up the glass all night, recording 10 rebounds.

The Cardinals started the game off hot from the offensive end. After making four of their first six shots, converting from the paint, the free throw line, and behind the arc, UIW held a slight advantage over the Lions. However, SLU quickly turned around the ship shooting 45 percent from the field and 43 from three, recording their highest scoring first-half of Southland Conference play with 40 points. The Cardinals went into the break trailing 26-40.

Coming out of the break as a team UIW couldn't find a rhythm offensively, averaging one point a minute in the first 10 minutes of the second half. The Southland Conference scoring leader, Bailey, did heat up to keep UIW in the game. Bailey scored 15 points on four 3-pointers in the final minutes. In the end the Southeastern offense couldn't be stopped and the Cardinals fell by a final score of 74-62.
