NACOGDOCHES, Tx. – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team was back on the road Thursday night for a matchup against Stephen F. Austin. The Cardinals led for the entire first half but ultimately fell 63-75 in Nacogdoches.
Brynn Lusby led all scorers with 21 points on the night
Madison Cockrell was the other Cardinal to score in double-figures with 12.
Raimi McCrary was two points shy of a double-double, scoring eight points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Brynn Lusby started out hot scoring seven of the teams 15 first quarter points, three of which came from the line. Lusby's early points and the tough Cardinal defense that forced eight turnovers in the quarter gave UIW a slight 15-11 lead after one.
Madison Williams joined the scoring in the second quarter with six points in bunches of threes. After Williams knocked down the one and only 3-pointer of the half for the Cardinals she converted an and-one giving UIW its largest lead of the game, seven, 25-18. The Cardinal continued to hold that lead into the break, up 29-27 at halftime.
Lusby dominated on the offensive end once again in the third, scoring 10 points in 10 minutes. This spurred on the highest scoring quarter for the Cardinals who had 20. However, they were outpaced by the Lady 'Jacks who had 28 and held a 55-49 lead heading into the final quarter.
The Cardinals were not able to cut into the lead and were outscored 20-14 in the fourth, falling by a final score of 63-75.
