Women’s Basketball Visits Islanders for Key Southland Matchup

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team continues Southland Conference play on the road Thursday evening, visiting Texas A&M–Corpus Christi at the American Bank Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Cardinals enter the weekend with a 10-8 overall record and an 8-3 mark in Southland Conference play, positioning themselves among the league's top contenders as the season moves into the second half of conference action.

UIW averages 64.8 points per game while shooting 40.1 percent from the field and nearly seven three-pointers per contest. Madison Cockrell leads the Cardinals offensively at 10.6 points per game and is the team's primary facilitator, averaging 3.4 assists per contest. Brynn Lusby has been a consistent force in conference play, averaging 13.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game against league opponents while shooting better than 54 percent from the floor.

Jorja Elliott adds scoring versatility on the perimeter, averaging 10.5 points per game overall, while also leading the team in steals. Raimi McCrary anchors the interior, pacing the Cardinals with 7.3 rebounds per game and providing a physical presence in the paint on both ends of the floor. UIW holds a +3.9 rebounding margin in conference play, averaging 37.1 rebounds per game against Southland opponents.

Scouting the Islanders
Texas A&M–Corpus Christi enters the matchup at 3-15 overall and 2-9 in Southland Conference play. The Islanders average 58.4 points per game and are led by Samora Watson, who posts a team-high 13.0 points per game while also contributing 4.7 rebounds.

Chelsea Wooten (9.3 ppg) and Marissa Shelton (8.4 ppg) provide additional perimeter scoring, while K'Nari Holliday controls the glass for the Islanders, averaging 6.2 rebounds per game. TAMUCC shoots 38.9 percent from the field and averages 6.4 made three-pointers per game, but will look to limit turnovers after averaging just over 20 per contest.

Saturday's game marks an important road test for the Cardinals as they look to maintain momentum and strengthen their position in the Southland Conference standings heading into the final stretch of league play.
