Men’s Soccer Ties Against HCU in a Conference Battle

SAN ANTONIO - The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team tied with Houston Christian University (HCU) Wildcats on Sept. 26 on the Cardinals' home turf.

Friday's match was the first game within the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) as the Cardinals played in a tough defensive battle against some of the conference's top offensive players.

Diego Robles sparked the Cards with a goal 31 minutes in from about 15 yards out, leading UIW over HCU going into the second half. Robles received a good look from an assist by Cardinal defender Giovanni Padilla, who currently leads the team with four this season.

Heading into Saturday's match, Ryan Okerayi led HCU in goals this season with 5, and ended the game with zero shot attempts. Wildcat midfielder D'Alessandro Herrera tied the game shortly after halftime and would be the last point scored in the 1-1 tie.

This match continues the six-game streak of no losses for the Cardinals (3-0-3). Currently, they have a 4-2-3 record on the season and have the fourth-best record in the conference.

On Thursday, the Cardinals travel to Lynchburg, VA to compete against Liberty University for their second conference game of the season. The Liberty Flames opened their conference season last with a 6-1 win against Southern Indiana University, and have a record of 5-2-2.
