Men’s Soccer Ties and Falls Short Against Conference Challengers

SAN ANTONIO- The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team fought hard on away turf through two Ohio Valley Conference games and came up short against Liberty University (1-2), while tying with the University of Southern Indiana (2-2). The Cardinals are 4-3-4 overall and 0-1-2 in the OVC.

CARDINALS VS. FLAMES
Oct. 2 had a quiet first half from both the Cardinals and Liberty Flames, with a 0-0 tie in 45 minutes of regulation. Within 24 minutes into the second half, the Flames scored back-to-back goals to take the lead against the Cardinals 2-0.

Late into the game, Emanuel Martinez is subbed in at the 61-minute mark to help bring the Cardinals back to life, and does so by scoring 15 minutes later inside the box to cut the lead 2-1.

That would inevitably be the last goal scored of the day, as the match concluded with the Liberty Flames winning over the Cardinals 2-1.

CARDINALS VS. EAGLES
Following the loss against the Flames, the Cardinals looked to take back control heading into Sunday's match against the USI Eagles. Three minutes into the game, Diego Robles has an opportunity for a 1-on-1 against the goalkeeper in a penalty showdown. The Cardinal forward would succeed in scoring his fourth goal this season and taking an early lead, 1-0, against the Eagles.

That lead would remain until the 75-minute mark, where the Eagles temporarily tied the game 1-1. Four minutes later, the Cardinals would respond with a shot from Noe Robles, assisted by Diego Robles, gaining the lead once again, 2-1, with about twenty minutes left to play.

Within the last five minutes of regulation, Edin Cvorovic from the Eagles would tie the match with a shot from about 10 yards outside the box.

Following the goal from the Eagles, the Cardinals would have two opportunities to win the game with shots from Diego Robles and Bryce Tober. The final score would stay at 2-2 as the Cardinals tie their second conference game this season.
