SAN ANTONIO – Declan Williams led the University of the Incarnate Word football team to a dominant 38-7 win over the top-15 ranked Abilene Christian University Wildcats, earning Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Williams had eight total tackles, with two tackles for loss and sack. This went along with a huge second half interception that he took back to the house for six. Coming into this game ACU was average over 25 points per game, including a 21-point performance against TCU. The Williams led defense held the Wildcats to just 248 yards of total offense, the lowest of the season for ACU.
 
This is the first outright player of the week honor for a member of the UIW football team in the 2025 season. The Cardinals will kick off Southland Conference play later this week with a home matchup against Stephen F. Austin.
