Volleyball Rolls Past NSU in Conference Opener

NATCHITOCHES, LA – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team cruised past the Demons to secure its first Southland Conference victory of the season — and its first sweep in league play. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 5-8 overall and 1-0 in SLC action.

Set 1: UIW 25 (1), NSU 12 (0)

UIW never trailed in the opening set, jumping out to a commanding lead and stretching the margin to as many as 13 points. The Cardinals' defense stifled the Demons, holding them to a -.125 hitting percentage. Offensively, UIW tallied 11 kills, with senior outside hitter Finley Evans leading the way with four.

Set 2: UIW 25 (2), NSU 17 (0)

Much like the opening frame, the Cardinals controlled set two from start to finish, never surrendering the lead and building an advantage of up to 10 points. UIW's attack produced 12 kills, while the defense once again locked down the Demons, limiting them to just eight kills and a .000 hitting percentage.

Set 3: UIW 25 (3), NSU 16 (0)

The Cardinals capped off their dominant night with a strong showing in the third and final set, outpacing the Demons 14 kills to nine. UIW turned in its best offensive performance of the match, hitting .256 to close the door and complete the sweep.

Calissa Allison notched her 11th double-double of the season, posting 15 assists and 12 digs. Finley Evans powered the offense with a match-high 12 kills, while Bella Ceja anchored the back row with a match-best 14 digs. At the net, Vanessa Eregie, Kade Thomas, and Evans each tallied two blocks to pace the Cardinals' defense.

UIW now turns its attention to East Texas A&M University, where the Cardinals will wrap up their grueling 14-match road swing to start the season. First serve against the Lions is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
