SAN ANTONIO- The University of the Incarnate Word football team will defend the nest against Abilene Christian University (ACU) on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. 
 
The Cardinals prepare for the start of a three-week home stretch at the Gayle & Tom Benson Stadium that begins on Sept. 27 and concludes on Oct. 18. It's worth noting that the Cardinals have done a good job of defending the nest as they sit at 8-0 at home, stretching back to last season. Currently, they have a 1-3 record with their lone victory against EWU at home.

CARDINALS

• The Cardinals have a top-15 passing offence in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), while having two different starting quarterbacks this season.
• The UIW backfield has rushed for over 470 yards in four games this season. 
• Last week, the Cardinals lost against Northern Arizona University in a top-20 showdown, 23-31. They finished the game with more yards on the ground and through the air while staying efficient in the redzone, going three for three in scoring position.

 
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS

• The ACU Wildcats have a 2-2 record following a high scoring 45-31 match against Austin Peay State University.
• The Wildcats share the ball with their receivers, having six different wideouts with over 100 receiving yards. Junior Dudley Dallas leads ACU with 200 yards.

 
PLAYERS TO WATCH

• In his first game as the starter, quarterback EJ Colson aired it out with 292 passing yards, two touchdowns and 59 yards rushing. Colson currently ranks within the top-10 in passing efficiency (173.79).
• Jameson Garcia is having a breakout season with over 340 yards on 23 catches. Garcia has two games with receiving yards over the century mark, while pairing them with three touchdowns.
• Talib Salahuddin had a great game against NAU last Saturday, recording four quarterback hits in a competitive matchup.
